Echoes Beneath the Hill

A short film by Aime Octave

Our Project

We are telling an important story that took place in Rwanda 30 years ago.

The 7th of April 1994 marks the horrific genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi. Some of the films made in the past focus on gore, and shock value, we want to tell it by showing the perspective of a child.

Follow the journey of 8-year-old Jeanne in the weeks leading to the genocide against the Tutsi, and start to understand how a child sees their environment change and tensions rise.

Through her perspective, we will go on a path of searching, discovery, loss of innocence, and awakening. Not only are we planning to travel to Rwanda to shoot this short film, but we are going to organize workshops in the month leading up to the shoot.

We will train young people who are interested in film but have not been able to come in contact with it yet.

Afterward, we hope to welcome them to our set, and with that, we want to make this film a true blend between a Belgian production and a Rwandan one.

We want to make more than a film, we want to make an impact.
